CULTURAL TOURISM AS DRIVER FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN GREECE

Τhe results of this research provide "empirical evidence that cultural tourism can be used, indeed, as a driver for economic growth in Greece. More precisely, they answer positively to the issue whether cultural tourists in Greece spend more than non-cultural tourists and they confirm that cultural tourism contributes much more to the GDP and employment of Greece than non-cultural tourism. Moreover, it provides evidence that in order to reap the full benefits from cultural tourism, an efficient cultural and tourism policy should target preferably non-European cultural tourists."

IMPACT OF AGRICULTURE ON THE QUALITY OF INLAND WATERS

"The results of the data mining application of the first phase of the research, which is the environmental “State” data against the ecosystem “Impact” data indicate, as expected, that there is a linkage between several physicochemical characteristics of the lakes examined and the amount of fish caught from those lakes. The ones which seemed to affect the fish catches the most were the electrical conductivity, the Cl concentration, the pH and the dissolved oxygen concentration of the water followed closely by the water temperature.[...]

When the first four parameters, namely the electrical conductivity, the Cl concentration, the pH and the dissolved oxygen concentration together with four additional parameters, which according to the literature, are expected to be closely related with the agricultural sector, that is Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonium and Total phosphorus concentrations, were examined against the agricultural “Pressures” data in the second phase of the research, all came through as linked to the size of cultivated areas as well as to the volume of production of agricultural products."
